Be The Jam

Held in beautiful Hertfordshire countryside Standon Calling is an independent festival with it’s roots in a birthday party six years ago. Over the last five years it has grown, solely by word of mouth. Our focus is on the overall quality of the event from the music to the toilets and a celebration of what festivals were born to be: You. Me. Music. Field.

In 2007 there will be five stages without mentioning Standon’s reputation for the odd unexpected stage appearing from nowhere. The festival boasts a number of bars, one of which is hewn out of an enormous oak tree where guests can get drinks in between dips in an open air swimming pool. And if hadn’t heard, Herts is the new Rio darling… a full scale Carnvial is planned for Saturday and headlined by The Heatwave (Punchline Records).

With the aim of growing the festival without destroying the intimacy that makes Standon so special, tickets are currently available on a word of mouth basis to the friends registered on the website by those already registered. This ensures that our loyal base of previous patrons are offered first refusal on tickets but should there be any left come July, tickets will be released publicly. This summer's line up may contain some of the year's hottest acts, but we’re resolute that nothing over-hyped gets on the bill.

Headlining this year are our favourite soulful indie pop boys, The Rumble Strips. They’ve had an amazing year since playing Standon last summer, headlining a national NME tour, and recording their debut album with the legendary Tony Hoffer.

Set to play Friday night with their tight and bass heavy future discoid noise is New Young Pony Club. Undoubtedly one of 2007’s most talked about bands, this London five-piece offer a sparsely minimal breed of punk funk that sounds like a 'distaff version excursion on disco era Rolling Stones, fronted by The Slits'.

The Noisettes also make a return to Standon this year and will be headlining the Saturday. Their raucous and untamed brand of psychedelic guitars and modern rock has earned them a reputation for spectacular live shows. “Mind blowing", "hit like a truck", and " the best live band in Britain".

Not only have Sunday headliners Mr Hudson And The Library made one of the albums of the year, they've also gone and invented a new genre. Fusing classic song writing, ska rhythms and rueful lyrics, this charming melodic hybrid labelled as “English R&B” is something not to be missed.

Of course, featuring brand new and alternative acts is just as important as getting ‘the names’. This year, epically mad twinkling bands including They Came from the Stars- I Saw Them! will be on hand to shake up any coolness that’s in danger of settling.

And beyond the music we’ll be offering as fun and ridiculous a range of past times as we can conjure up, including Jonny Woo’s Gay Bingo, Knitting Classes and a host of superb cabaret acts including the fabulous Earl Okin and Des O’Connor.

To top it all specially designed bars, honest food and bar pricing and without doubt, the best festival loos and showers around.

Oh and we’re raising money for charity too.

Eagle. Lion. Man, Emmy The Great, The Mules, The Social, Nic Dawson Kelly, Fortune Drive, Cheenah, The Fabulous Penetrators.
