In Trouble Again
A while ago I read a book by Redmond O'Hanlon about his time in the jungle in Borneo, I currently have a bit of a habit of reading books on such things. Earlier on today I was mooching about in Blackwell's book shop as is my want when I'm supposed to be doing useful things and I was much pleased to find a book my Mr O'Hanlon about the Amazon. The book starts with a most amusing discussion of the things that live in the Amazon that can kill, maim, disfigure and generally spoil one's day. How I laughed when he mentioned the viper that isn't so bad as it will only kill you if you stand on it, by the time I got to anacondas not being so rotten as they only constrict when you breath out I was feeling a little less than amused. The descriptions of diseases, some of which I hadn't even heard of, I started to feel distinctly hot and a little unwell. I finally gave up on the book at the bit with the fish with the spines that causes the requirement for the amputation of the penis and went and looked at the Asterix books instead.
